Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2020 Wednesday — Pressure

Today was my turn to go to Kaiser Medical Center in Riverside. About every 4 months my ophthalmologist checks my eyes because glaucoma is part of my family history. So keeping the pressure correct on the optic nerve is very important. I’m thankful for a reliable and cautious eye doctor and his staff. Today I did not actually see the doctor, but his technicians who do the tests — one test is for field of vision and the other is to check the pressure level in each eye. Next week I actually will have a face-to-face meeting with my ophthalmologist.

After we left Kaiser, we drove further into Riverside. I wanted to stop at the appliance store where we purchased our kitchen appliances 2+ years ago. Back then we purchased a refrigerator with side-by-side doors. Several months after using that refrigerator I realized that there was a significant space between shelves in the freezer. So at that time, I phoned our sales guy and asked about it. He confirmed that “Yes, the gap is so big that some people think a shelf is missing, but no, a shelf is not missing, but there’s room for another one.” He looked up what a shelf would cost and I was stunned. He agreed that it was steep. So he went looking through their shop to see if an extra shelf might be available. Of course it wasn’t. So he offered to order it for me and I declined and said I’d think about it. That was 2 years ago. Now, I’ve decided it’s time to remedy the disorganization and jumbled products in my freezer.

So (too make a long story longer), today at the appliance store another salesman (ours was out for his lunch break), explained that there is actually “slots” for two extra shelves in the freezer. He walked us to the showroom and let us see what he was explaining on a refrigerator they have in stock. Then the “parts” salesman got involved and agreed with the salesman that we could actually have two more shelves. He asked if I wanted to order two shelves instead of just one an offered to check the price on them. I knew the price — egads. So I hoped that possibly a miracle had transpired in the cost of parts these past 24 months. Maybe they’d be much less money than I thought. He returned with the price of each printed for us. No miracle had happened. Good grief. It was time to make a decision. Ugh! One is expensive enough; now I have to decide if I want two.

The parts man said he’d phone us when our order arrives (probably Monday).

Then, even though I really wanted to head further into Riverside; go to the Mission Inn to wander through and see all the hotel grounds and lobby beautifully decorated for this season, I knew Mr. Fun was ready to head west toward our city and to get off the highway and get home, kick off his shoes, and relax. So I kept my thoughts to myself and agreed that it was time to head toward our casa.

That was our Wednesday. It was also Veterans Day and when we realized it was a holiday, I knew the Post Office would be closed and I was planning to put an anniversary card in the mail for our granddaughter Ashly & her hubby Robert — 4 years ago tomorrow. So we might hand deliver it instead.

Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
