Garden makeover

Another BritBox episode of ‘This Life’ while on my bike - 40 minutes! I mis-spoke and said it was ‘This is Us’. No - it’s the 1990s series about a group of rookie solicitors. VERY dated - in one scene a man takes off his cap to reveal a completely bald head, to show he had cancer, and the other chap was stunned. Bald heads are so common now, even amongst young men.

Later, we went for a walk with Chrissy. Of course it included a coffee, sitting outside at Kauai, where the staff welcome us like old friends. They have noticed a bit of a slow down since England has been locked down - there are not so many English tourists or even English students still in town.

The others went for a longer walk round by the Grassmarket, but Archie and I came home over the Meadows. We called in to see Rufus’s mum’s new front garden, which isn’t finished yet. There used to be a huge bush in the middle, leaving not much for sitting outside, say, in a lockdown. Now it’s all pavings and grass.

Back home for a G&T by the fire.

The new Autumn Rugby Series starts this weekend. Yipee! Two games tomorrow (and one tonight). But alas, I have been lured away from Scotland’s first game against Italy. Instead, I have chosen to go and have a lunch out at one of our favourite eateries. Still, plenty more games coming up.

I happened to turn on my iPhone radio to listen to ‘The World Tonight’ as per usual last night and caught the penalty shoot out where the Scotland football team won and are now in a major tournament (The Euros) for the first time in 20 years. What excitement!

JR has been itching to get Christmassy, and has been experimenting with a Winter table arrangement.
