The View From The Office
It was off early again to Peebles to have a new boot lock fitted.
There is still no sitting to book the car in (not sure who the hand sanitiser etc is for because nobody can reach it).
We were given the keys to Honda's new electric car - the 'e' - and told to have fun.
I had been told that it was as much fun as the original Mini to drive, but having owned 2 (one of them set up for out and out performance) I was very sceptical to say the least.
The first thing I will say is that neither of my Mini's had a dashboard that was a very colourful picture (sorry - I only had the infrared camera with me) which could be changed from a selection (couldn't find the fish tank though). The other big change to the dashboard is the fact the the wing mirrors are now screens with live feed from cameras fitted where the mirrors used to be.
Not sure why the car has 4 doors ...... normal people can't get in the back.
After having great fun chucking the car down country lanes and finding that it handles extremely well and seemed to pull very well we went and had a look at The Great Polish Map Of Scotland before going into the very nice Barony Castle Hotel (which was populated with extremely nice staff) for a hot drink and a bit of cake and observed the 2 minute silence with said staff.
Before taking the car back I decided to see how quick off the mark it really was. My souped up Mini was quick off the mark and capable of getting wheel spin going uphill in 3rd gear but this thing is neck snapingly quick and will go well beyond the speed limit (allegedly .... lol).
The real fun was going through 20mph speed limits with idiots in big cars itching to get past ...... and then flooring it leaving the 20mph zone. Just a shame that the very rapidly increasing distance between the vehicles meant that you couldn't see the others drivers expression.
When I handed the keys back I let them know that it was parked at one of the charging points ..... it was going to need it. It was only about 60% charged when I took it out but it was well under 25% when I took it back.
Okay, I had been pushing it hard but its normal mileage per charge is meant to be in the region of 100 - 150 miles.
Fine as a city/normal commute vehicle but otherwise ............
Cost is another mark against it - it costs more than my estate.
But as the guy at the desk said when I gave the keys back - "You may be wearing a mask, but I can see you have a huge smile on your face. I told you you would come back like that".
It is a great, fun car to drive.
