Winged Victory

This is the second version of Nike, the goddess of victory, on the war memorial outside Marrickville Town Hall. It commemorates the 450+ local residents who died in WWI.

Apparently the raised sword in the 1920s original acted as a lightning rod and contributed to its damage. In the new one, the sword is lowered.

Today there were half a dozen bouquets at its base.
