Pierrot

Three decades ago I was in Copenhagen. All my pictures from then are terrible. I would love to go back. I saw Pierrot in Tivoli. I bought three very similar Christmas tree ornaments in Denmark. This is one. Because I bought it in Denmark I have it associated with Denmark even if it is really French. Behind it is a gift relatives sent to my grandmother's mother. It says, "Greetings from Silkeborg" in Danish. My grandmother let me have it and I foolishly took it out of its frame to make it easier to transport and was shocked to learn how much it cost to reframe it. It does look nicer in this frame but still.

We just watched the movie A Call to Spy. It is very good.

The news and social media in the US are full of fretting. If your American friends seem a little squirrely over the next few months, someone is playing with their heads.

A new report says that outside your home, gyms, restaurants, and coffee shops are the most dangerous places you can be. It makes complete sense - you aren't likely to be wearing a mask in any of them. They suggest limiting them to 20% capacity. If I were world dictator they, and bars, would be closed. Exercise outside. Order take out. I wouldn't let customers into stores. Tell an employee what you want. They get it for you. Pay a "social contact" fee of $5 every time you go to a store to encourage you to figure out everything you need and not go repeatedly for only a few items. Anyone deemed essential must have health insurance, paid sick leave, and at least $20 an hour. Change procedures to make meatpacking plants safe or shut them down too.

Tomorrow evening our state will toughen restrictions. They are more rigorous still in my county. They are not as draconian as I would have them be.

We may need to travel to New York. Apparently if you get a crown and later need work, no one will help you except your original dentist. Heaven help you if your original dentist retires? Karen probably has to go all the way to New York to have work done on her crown because no one here will touch it. Non-essential travel is banned of course but medical care will make it essential. Whenever we go, I will get to take someone's portrait in New Jersey while we are there. I talked with her today and she sounds like a dear. My goal is to give her pictures of herself that make her smile and feel good. I hope it isn't freaking cold whenever that is. Of course, that is what coats and gloves are for, right?
