Life through the lens...

By ValC

Going, going, gone.

The weeping ash tree came down today.
So sad to see it go. It has been a feature of next door's garden long before we moved here, and the outlook from our window to the right is now very bare, but very much lighter.
It will be interesting to see what a difference it makes when the sun is shining.
Don't know when that will be as it has been another dismal murky day.

I must mention a programme we watched on BBC 2 last night.
Travels through Cornwall with Simon Reeve.  He is a brilliant investigative journalist, so we knew it would be good. He pulls no punches.
This is not your usual travel documentary, but any one who goes to Cornwall for their holidays should watch this.
We weren't shocked as we always knew that this was the "true" Cornwall.
On of the places he visited was a food bank in Cambourne.   It really did bring tears to my eyes.

My mum's father and mother were Cornish. Granddad was a gardener, and moved out of Cornwall to work in Scotland when he finished his apprenticeship.
My grandmother's father went to America in the late 1800s to work as a miner because the mines were closing even then. Left my great grandmother to look after the 7 children, and never came back.
Some things haven't changed.

Watch it on catchup.  There is also a second programme on next Sunday.

Thank you for the comments stars and hearts for Rupert yesterday.
What a much loved bear he is. Especially people  of a certain age!
