Journey

Dementia ward nurse called us late morning to see dad.

His wife, I and my daughter were keeping him company at noon, we decided to stay as long as he needs. We discussed with the nurse. And I told us all kind of memories from my dad's favourite place from the old country cottage. I kept his hand in mine, it felt cool though. I was so sure that he responded to my speaking and stories, with moving his eyebrow. Very small move, but just in right places... He clearly was still with us. Even answered, when I asked if he had any pain? (no), or if he felt good? (yes).

I always have liked dad. His logics.

After some time his breathe became very thin, and I touched his elbow and old him that his mother and father are probably already waiting there at heaven gate, waving at him. I thanked him for everything, all what he has done for us and with us, and told how he could leave in peace now - farewell, dad.
After these words, he just stopped breathing. I guess he left peacefully to his eternal journey to heaven. We called the nurse. He was gone.

Relieved but sad. I will miss him for sure. As I already have during all these long Alzheimer's years.

The circle of life.
I wonder, when will we meet again...
