Poppies for Remembrance
Remembrance Sunday in Lockdown is very different to other years with ceremonies either cancelled or by invitiation only. We stood at the doorstep for the 11.00am two minutes silence particularly remembering my mum's brother who was killed when his Lancaster crashed in 1944 aged only 22.
It's been grey, misty and drizzly all day but this afternoon I went for a walk around the village. I met a friend from my art group who was out walking her dog so it was lovely to have a socially distanced chat.
The village has a Garden of Remembrance that used to be the cemetary but is now a grassy area with the old memorials at one end. As well as the main memorial there is an oak tree called the Gunners Oak which is in memory of the gunners that trained for WW1 and 2 at Park Hall Camp just outside the village. As well as poppies there were decorated stones at the base of the tree but I liked this string of poppies fastened to it's branches.
