The Tump
Day 228 of COVID-19 UK 2nd Lockdown!
I chose the Kilpeck Walk out of the Herefodshire Ramblers '10 Best Herefordshire Walks' which is about twenty minutes from home. Following the route we ended up at The Tump that can be seen from Kilpeck village only to be approached by a male aged about 30 saying there was no footpath! I explained we were following a walk from the book. He claimed to be the land owner.
Moments later he was joined by a lady and he explained we were following a walk from the book.
She replied "I'll have that off them now!"
"Mummy, you can't do that!" he exclaimed.
It was as much as I could do not to chuckle but she meant take details of the book off us! We ended up chatting and I let her take photo's of the offending walk and details of the book. It appears there's no footapth to The Tump (I'll be checking it out later).
The walk is so badly written we ended up getting lost again, and with light fading we were approached by another well spoken man. I explained and he was apologetic but wouldn't let us pass his house to the road and we'd have to return the way we came and join the road after walking several fields and over a brook. Something to do with not allowing right to roam access?
We met several landowner locals (their Herefordshire accent gives them away) who couldn't be lovelier. It appears the one's we met today have moved to the area from 'The City'.
By the time we got back to the car at Kilpeck castle it was dark but we put the kettle on for a cuppa before heading home.
Who writes or checks these walking books as this is the second one from this book that has had us lost!! The blipfoto shows The Tump and it's owners!
