Out on a limb
A gorgeous day today! We walked down to the town to do various things and spotted this ginormous marine crane sitting at the North Pier. When we went over to investigate it turned out that this huge Dutch-built craneship 'Lara 1' was en route to the Minch, off the island of Skye, to salvage a fishing boat that went down after running aground. They were demonstrating the turning of the crane, which I suppose in transit would sit on the white tower in the bows. The swirl in the water was caused by the good ship 'Isle of Arran' backing away from the pier, tho' we heard a wee girl ask her Mum 'What's that in the water, Mummy?'.
As the RNLI were holding a fund-raising event on the pier - see the blue tent - apparently the skipper of the Lara 1 agreed to hoist the RNLI flag for a bit of extra advertising, which was good of him.
After lunch a neighbour and I borrowed another neighbour's ladder and carried it right down Laurel Road to help the first neighbour take a small limb off a tree that was threatening his car. It's always fun working on the roadside as a lot of people pass by on their way to McCaig's Tower, including, today, two young ladies who were swinging a bottle of Prosecco about and happy to engage in a boisterous conversation. When I asked how many bottles they'd got through, one of them answered 'Two'!
Quote of the day:
Ana Monnar - “All human beings are my neighbors. We share the same planet.”
