Water shadows
Today the first leg of our trip was from Cobar to Wilcannia (250km along a good straight road). Wilcannia is on the mighty Darling River and was a major port for goods and passenger transport during the river boat era of the mid 19th century. It has beautiful original stone buildings, still functional and maintained. Today its population is around 600.
The second leg was 150km along a dirt road to Menindee, also on the Darling River and where we are staying for a couple of days. The Burke and Wills expedition, whose aim was to traverse Australia from north to south from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria, stopped at Menindee for a time. Much in the town is devoted to this piece of history. Its population is around 500.
Menindee and Sydney are in the same time zone but being so much further west, the sunsets are later. We went for a walk along the river at around six pm and it was still very bright. My blip photo is of shadows on the Darling taken from a bridge, with a fair bit of editing to get an abstract look.
My comments will be minimal for the next couple of days as the internet is really slow and on Saturday we won't have any!
Thanks for hosting Ingeborg. Stay well all.
