Horse chestnut

The Horse Chestnut has big sticky brown buds and large scars from where old leaves fell off.  The largest Horse Chestnut tree in the UK is just up the road from here at the National Trust's Hughenden Estate, which used to be the home of Benjamin Disraeli.  It's over 300 years old.  Mine is a juvenile in comparison.  The tree originally comes from the Balkans.  No one knows where the name came from but the Turks used the conkers to treat their horses and the leaf scar looks like a horse-shoe with nail holes.
