It was my idea to go to Thirlmere but I’d underestimated the amount of rain that had either fallen or come off the fells since Saturday morning. 

The road from Ambleside to Grasmere was a series of puddles and flooded sections. By the time we got over Dunmail, although it looked drier, I was worrying about getting back. It would just need one car to get stuck in the water for the road to be blocked. 

As a result it was a few photos from Wythburn car park then a return journey. We detoured via Waterhead to see how high the lake was. All the jetties were underwater and the car park entrance was flooded.
