The Silence of the Girls
By Pat Barker, which I've just finished reading. I should have realised that it wasn't going to be an easy read - she has a thing about war, in this book the war between Greece and Troy, and although it was told from the viewpoint of a Trojan woman captured by the Greeks, that didn't stop it having plenty of gruesomeness. I didn't want a funny book, or even a light book, but I think I'll look for something a bit more cheerful next. Not that I wouldn't recommend this book, it's just that you need a fair degree of resilience.
