Short straw

The Photobore Bit
Lots of things going wrong with my photography today. Maybe trying to take pictures of the kids at Walton Pier in dodgem cars with low light and neon whilst trying to sync a manual flash was a stretch in hindsight.

Back to base.

Oscar got the short straw for modelling as Lo was watching Chicago.

This Blip has been shot with a Nikon SB600 flash slightly to the right of me and up high, pointing down at about 45 degrees. It is on a light stand and surrounded by the cheap 60 x 60 pop up soft box I got off eBay and have used before. The cheapo eBay wireless triggers are still holding up.

The pose isn't great and in fairness O is tolerating his Dad but what has given me some semblance of hope in this portraiture is the light. It is not perfect as perfection is a pursuit not an achievement but it is headed in the right direction. At last I seem to be breaking down the awful glare I have been getting via my flash.

I could have done more with highlights and shadows (especially in O's hair) in Aperture but I am just so chuffed to get some light shadow balance right at last that I just didn't want to overcook it but rather appreciate how far I have come.

Can I just say...to those portrait photographers who have added really useful comments on previous Blips to help me develop...I salute you.
