In a marmalade fug
There's nothing as homely as the smell of marmalade cooking. Lovely as Australia is, tempted as I would be in another life to emigrate there, I don't think making marmalade would be something it would feel comfortable to do there. Whereas it is the perfect occupation for a winter's afternoon in Wales.
Here's part of a year's supply which OB and I made today. Well, unless I make more than one batch of marmalade ice-cream, in which case it might not last.
By the way, should you still be wondering whether it's worth the effort of cuttting up all those oranges, I recommend Jane Grigson's Whole Orange Marmalade recipe in her wonderful Fruit Book - you can pressure cook the oranges, which makes chopping them easy-peasy.
