From the Pico de Huma
As a birthday treat I was rewarded with the opportunity to get high in the local mountain range of the Sierra de Huma. After a visit to the local Hermitage, where TJ blipped this amazing view of the rooftops we took a mountain road up to the start of our walk. The damage caused by the terrible floods of last October was very evident, with sections of the road having been washed away. Our little rental Fiat Punto handled the roads pretty well, but I was very happy to have TJ's strong hands at the wheel. There were some pretty steep drop offs.
We lost the glorious sunshine of the last few days but the weather was still good for walking, with only just a little bit of drizzle, which never lasted long. The path took us around the edge of the cliffs which drop off to El Chorro and above the point where we finished our walk on Valentine's Day, from which a trail led up to the summit plateau, an area of grass and limestone pavement. From there we descended and completed the circuit of the mountain and back to the car.
We're just off now for a meal at our favourite local restaurant, but before winding up for the evening I am under orders to set the record straight from yesterday. It was TJ who was all for exploring the Camino del Rey and I was the one who poured cold water on the idea. I am neither the dare devil nor the mountain goat that I used to be - which is probably a good thing!
