Lanercost Bridge

This bridge was built in 1724...traffic uses an inferior bridge nearby built in 1962.

We did a 2 hour walk through Quarry Beck woods, then in to Brampton and back along through beech woods with fabulous views across to the Scottish hills!

Lanercost Priory was founded in 1166...but in 1346 the Scots ransacked the monastic buildings.

Edward I moved Parliament to Carlisle, and the seals of the crown to Lanercost.
