welcome to the real world

Box Hill

Today marks half term week 2 for Heidi and myself, but week 1 for mum so at her request we went somewhere for a walk. We had our hearts set on the ‘Stepping Stones’ trail (suitable for kids) but discovered the stepping stones were in fact submerged at the moment, rather ruining the main feature of the walk. Also, prior to this we did spend about 5/10 minutes trying to find our way out of the car park and onto the path. It was not going all that well for us...

Mum suited and booted for -3°C but soon had to remove her coat, gloves, hat and hoodie because we were working up quite a sweat with the thousands of muddy/slippery steps we had to trek down. Once we finally made it to the bottom, Mumma’s quote of the day was ‘I’ve been on top of the world before, but never at the bottom. It’s quite amazing!’

Having clambered down many, many steps we knew we would have to be heading back up somehow... we chose not to go back the way we came as that felt too treacherous. Instead we followed a bunch of humans who seemed to know where they were going. From the bottom of the hill, it looked steep but manageable...after five metres of walking I soon realised that was not the case! By the top of the hill we were exhausted and had activated calf muscles I didn’t know I had! Once at the top it was a nice steady, FLAT (!) walk back to the car park.

There were gorgeous views and we had a lovely, albeit tiring, time! We shall certainly go back...maybe one day when there is less mud!
