Dredging

There's a lot of time spent maintaining the canals, and most of it is done by volunteers. -  although I think this craft is owned and run by the Canals and Rivers Trust.  I was talking to one volunteer who was cutting back and generally tidying up and he told me that when you volunteer you have the option to choose (if available) the stretch of the canal or river that you'd like to take care of.  I think it's an excellent scheme and I'm very grateful to all the volunteers who so generously give their time and energy to the task. Apart from a wander down here today it's been a very quiet day and now the night's are drawing in that much earlier, a very short day too. :-)
