Canterbury Tales - relived
It's five days short of being two years since the February 22 2011 earthquake in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. A day that has changed every Cantabrian's life in one way or another.
This scene is a story, telling how some of daily life in Christchurch has changed.
The Sumner/Clifton cliffs fell, in several of the quakes, so they are now lined with over 120 concrete lined containers. People have tried to enhance the containers, with art.
It's not allowed to walk along the road here any more - but the beach is a wonderful alternative. It's tough for the cyclists; dangerous, with cars very close, and if only the cars would stick to 30kph - but most do if only because the road became very uneven.
No parking is allowed along the road under the cliffs.
Every vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian in or out of Sumner must go past the cliffs.
But life goes on! Posters urge us to Rally for the Cathedral, come to the Beer Festival, or enter a high country marathon. A stronger sense of community is helping us support each other, living life that we value again.
