2020 Wednesday — Lunch with Larry
We met Larry for lunch today. His wife, Vicki, is in Texas visiting two of their adult children and she will be home this coming weekend. I didn’t manage to get a photo of us altogether, so this will serve as my souvenir of the moments we spent together.
We have known Larry & Vicki since the early 1980s when we all attended the same church and for many years our families all went to family camp on Catalina Island together. Their three children were several years younger than our two.
When we first met them Larry was an engineer for the City of Seal Beach. He would make the commute on the 91 freeway every day from Corona to Seal Beach. His big project there was getting the pier rebuilt after it had been damaged severely in a storm.
Eventually he get a job as the City Engineer for Corona. I think it was a fairly intense job with lots of politics mingled into it and the requirement to attend city council meetings. When he had enough years in, he retired from the city and then went to work for another engineering firm in Corona.
Vicki and I both attended community college together in our 30s. She was interested in the world of nutrition and I had thoughts on teaching. Eventually she switched her major to teaching and entered the world of teaching elementary school. After 20 years of teaching, she and Larry both retired on the same day.
Lunch with Larry was time well spent. We hope to have dinner with them both soon.
From SoCal,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
