At Hereford: 'Finding Joy' at the Courtyard....

This is Mark Winstanley, from the Vamos Theatre Company. He performed alongside a remarkable cast of four actors in the full mask performance of 'Finding Joy' at The Courtyard Theatre.

Finding Joy, is a silent production where the four actors use expressive body language and masks. Its astoundingly successful how the lack of words is ironic to the narrative of the play. The context being, dementia and an elderly lady called Joy and her relationship with her family and carers. Its a true tale, which we can all relate to on many levels. You dont have to know or care for someone with dementia to understand this play. It highlights the detail in life.

Joy's relationship with her grandson, Rowan shows this beautifully and his attention to the detail of her life. He takes time to understand why she feeds pretend birds and strokes a pretend dog. He dances with her, laughs with her, whilst his exhausted mother is in and out maintaining and cleaning .

Rowan shows that whatever the caring situation, its stopping and taking time to understand detail in someones life that is the biggest part . To laugh, be creative, dance and make time to understand whats important to them, is really listening. A beautiful tale......x
