Coffee at Corfe Castle
We had a much better day than we expected with the weather. It rained first thing but we'd already decided it wouldn't be worth getting out for the sunrise. We had a more leisurely morning and met up at 9 to go for breakfast. We went to the restaurant at the RNLI College on the Lifeboat Quay. Marian and I had eaten there in the evening on a previous trip when we were catching a ferry from Poole. It's a very nice place and we went back and ate there this evening too.
We went to Kimmeridge Bay first and found it was high tide when we got there so there were no ledges or things to be seen. The Dorset book by Mark Bauer who is a fine landscape photographer neglects to mention the tidal aspects in the section about best time of day to visit. Fairly obvious I suppose if you know the area, not quite so obvious if you don't. We moved on to Swanage and had a walk on the pier to photograph the remains of the Old Pier. It looks quite odd with the huge 'Anthem of the Seas' Quantum class cruise liner behind it. I have shots taken previously which I think are probably better so I've added a different angle as an extra.
The weather was looking quite promising so we had a pub lunch and then carried on to Corfe Castle. We were in plenty of time for sunset so took our flasks up West Hill (we thought it might deliver better shots than the more usual sunset viewpoint of East Hill). The light was beautiful as you can see in my main blip. Once the sun went down we waited for a while but there was no sign of anything more happening so we carried on down and headed back to base.
My thanks to you all for the presents you've left for my blip from Durdle Door. You're very kind and it seems to be sitting nicely on page 1 of the popular pages.
