Two workplaces

The contrast between the precautions taken at the Sculpture Workshop (goggles and masks) and the complete absence of ear defenders, goggles or masks on the demolition site opposite us is striking. I didn't manage to get a picture of two workers on the demolition site, as I had to go and fetch my camera and missed the picture I originally wanted which was two men looking at a lorry full of rubble, but I got that other familiar sight, which is a man standing around talking on a phone. Basically, as far as we're concerned, they seem to spend an inordinate amount of time doing relatively little on the demolition site, with a lot of phone calls and farting around. The dreaded jackhammer went backwards and forwards between the two bits of the site (one opposite us, and the other fronting onto Bonnington Road) about four times today, and at the speed at which it travels, it must have spent an hour 'on the road'. We can only wonder why.... But it certainly seemed to be a waste of time. In similar style, the concrete crusher spent hours today doing nothing at all, and there is still a *lot* of concrete left to crush (to pick out the reinforcing wires) on the site. Even so, they still managed to make a lot of noise today.

I left Mr A to put up with the noise this morning (he rapidly retreated into his study which I have mainly been occupying for the last six weeks or so) in order to collect some compost from meles down on the Water of Leith, where she was working with the volunteers. I then headed over to Milk for coffee and a snack, and some work in a different venue.

More nonsense tv in the evening....so no improving activities have yet been found.
