The shadow of Hecate
I went this morning to a show at the Gemäldegalerie about the art historian Aby Warburg — a very Germanic show consisting of various objects that had inspired his art-critical masterwork. One of the objects in the show was a sixteenth-century bronze statuette of the goddess Hecate. The statue itself wasn’t all that interesting, but the shadow it cast on the wooden floor of the museum was thrilling, I thought, so here it is.
