Wishing on the moon
Amanda, in Tennessee Williams’ play, The Glass Menagerie, stands on her fire escape in St. Louis, Missouri, and observes, “A little silver slipper of a moon.” She asks her son Tom, “Have you made a wish on it yet?”
I played the role of Amanda in a college production when I was only eighteen and nowhere near old or wise enough to do justice to Amanda’s character, but since then I’ve made a wish whenever I saw such a moon. (More sparkly in Large.)
Coalitions of activists are forming in Portland to go into action if the current President is voted out of office and refuses to go. Never before in my lifetime have we expected a coup. These are such strange times.
