The Vallesanta

They say that back in 1224 when St Francis went up Mt Penna and received the stigmata the Val Santa was lit up by a bright light. Long a passage for pilgrims on the way to Rome and linking the sanctuaries of Camaldoli and La Verna it was a busy place in the Middle Ages. Now it is home to a couple of small villages and hamlets high on the valley sides. This is taken above tiny Frassineta which has a beautiful unassuming Romanesque church (extra).
