In search of ancestors

Today we headed into rural South Lanarkshire, to Carmichael, a place I'd only recently come to associate with my ancestors. Over the last week I've discovered that one of my 7 x great grandfathers - John Patersone of Lochlyloch - a farmer from here, is credited with, in the early 18th century,  being one of the first people to crossbreed local mares with a Flemish stallion to produce the now famous Clydesdale horse breed.
This is the parish church. John's gravestone is probably long gone or at least illegible, but I did find that of his son Daniel and his wife Mary, my 6 x great grandparents.
