A Green Blip
I wouldn't class wheelie bins as a hot topic but recycling and becoming 'greener' are, with the Scottish Government issuing regulations to drive down waste and increase recycling. So change is coming to our neck of the woods and in a few weeks we'll have no fewer than six receptacles to deal with - green for garden waste, blue for card and paper, brown for cans, plastic bottles and glass, and the familiar grey for general waste. In addition, there'll be a kitchen and kerbside caddy for food waste. Phew!
To prepare for this we've enlarged the concrete area at the foot of our back steps so our drive will not be littered with bins - if you'll excuse the pun. The man of the house has been getting torn into this task with a great deal of enthusiasm - mixing cement, I'm told, can be quite enjoyable! Here you see him with a wrecking bar and a mallet about to attack the wooden palette (on which the materials were delivered) , to dismantle it and pack into the boot for a trip to the local recycling plant. Recycling's never-ending! It's set to become a way of life and we're all just going to have to bite the bullet and face up to our responsibilities!
