It had been years since I’d last opened this book, which I bought at 221b, Baker Street when I lived in London in the nineties. Sherlock Holmes has been a literary companion of mine for over thirty years and the joy I get at witnessing the sleuth’s unravelling of the mysteries presented to him never abates. I have just started “A Study in Scarlet” - it is now difficult for me to picture Holmes and Watson with faces and voices that are not Benedict Cumberbatch’s and Martin Freeman’s, but you could do worse than having Cumberbatch’s voice directly in your head...
