Woodpecker hole

A good walk with a new group today. I’d biked to the start and left my bike in a friend’s garage. On returning they showed me this segment from a huge and decaying ash tree they’ve had felled - where a woodpecker has exploited the weakness. It was a massive tree and looks like they’ve got a lifetime’s supply of firewood out of it too! Woody woodpecker will have to find a new home now though.
