Focus on Water

Tonight is the next Zoom meeting for our Focus on Water photography group project, so I was playing around trying to get some photos. I've added another as an Extra - not a very successful day though (some days are just like that!).

UK deaths up 137 to 43,155 (revised basis), with a 19,724 rise in new daily cases, 4,650 patients in hospital and 516 in ventilator beds. A month ago on the 1st day of the Rule of Six there were only 9 deaths, 884 patients in hospital and 2,621 new daily cases. The number of Covid-19 patients in hospital in England has gone up 41% in a week, Wales is up 32% and in Scotland the number has doubled. Liverpool City ICU will be full next week according to the mayor, and 8,436 pupils and 527 teachers are self isolating. Unbelievably the Greater Manchester Mayor is still opposing being moved into Tier 3. I thought the mistake made the first time round of not taking prompt and significant action had been learnt, clearly not. A paper yet to be peer reviewed says that a full lockdown with stay-at-home orders and school closures could reduce virus deaths from 19,900 to 12,100 over the rest of the year and reduce hospitalisations from 132,400 to 66,500. 

Northern Ireland is to have a 4 week 'circuit breaker' lockdown from Friday. People living in an area with a high prevalence of Covid-19 are banned from entering Wales from 6pm on Fri (those in a high area in Wales already cannot leave except for work or education etc). The boss of Visit East of England said those thinking of travelling from areas of high infection should stay away, and the MP for North Norfolk has called on the Govt to prohibit people from going to a lower infection area from a higher one. Per Sky News, some executives working on Test & Trace from Boston Consulting Group are being paid £7k....a day!!! This is in addition to more than a thousand consultants from Deloittes - as I've said before, given the outcomes some of the money should be paid back. The WHO very sadly reports that 10k more children a month could die of malnutrition due to the impact of the pandemic. The World Bank will supply $12bn to help developing countries buy and distribute vaccines, tests and treatment.
