Cave Creek & Pancake Rocks
Today we started our homeward journey along the Coast Road. We stopped for 2 hours and walked into Cave Creek- a beautiful, beautiful area-marred by a tragedy 25 years ago when students standing on a platform looking over this cave, had the platform collapse and 14 people died.
Their presence is still felt-and we had admiration for those who had to rescue the few that survived and to transport the bodies out- it was rugged and remote. A very sobering experience.
The extra is of the Pancake Rocks at Punakiki- the blow holes were not displaying their power as it was low tide. Fortunately, we have seen them before.
Now we are tucked into a little converted container in Ross again for the night.
