Tending the fire

After the recent rain the burning ban was lifted today; we and the neighbors were promptly at it, burning our debris piles before more rain arrives tomorrow.
The fire is not supposed to be left unattended. We got a late start, had our dinner by the fire and then sat there late into the evening, reading, enjoying the warmth, the barn owl flying overhead, screeching.
