The Corona Chimney.

No, not erected as a memorial to the new virus, but in the mid early 1800’s by John Crossley at Dean Clough, Halifax.
297 ft. high, and Grade two listed.
The date stone at the base reads 1857, but this may be when it was started not when it was finished.

At the top is a string course and necking with moulded cornice surmounted by pointed cast iron plates forming a corona. Hence the name.

I took the photo from the car as we drove to Sainsbury’s to pick up our fortnightly order.
Had no idea then what it was called. I have looked that up later, and it did make me laugh.

Looking at the sign on the right made me think of how the virus must be effecting all those visitor attractions. We have been to very few places, ( none in Yorkshire) since lockdown started.

Have just found out we are in Tier 2. so I don’t think it will make much difference to us.
Better if anything as we can now meet people in the garden, although it is too cold and wet!
