A Twinsday

It's been raining a lot here, but it was dry when I headed off to Lex's house for our dinner.  Then, two blocks from her house, the sky opened up and there was a downpour that gathered in strength and started raining hailstones.  Just walking from my car to the house got me soaked.

Then the twins arrived and I was able to hold and feed Sam, who felt very heavy - apparently they each weigh about 15 pounds now.  Andrew put them down on a blanket and played their dance music for them, and they both started moving their legs, arms and heads around (see Extra.)  His  aunt has knitted two beautiful sweaters for the boys and you can see them in the main blip.

We sat down to dinner after Sarah and Nick arrived with Charlie, and it was lovely.  Lex made a delicious goulash and there was a luscious chocolate and cream layered cake for dessert.  We toasted and sang "Happy Birthday" to Bruce.

We talked about turning 80 and about all the things that have changed in the world since 1940, wondering what the world will be like for the boys growing up.  The girls have never known a world in which there was no access to advanced technology, and Bruce was born into a world without television.  There was a time when there was no zip code, then a two digit code, and finally the five and 9 digit codes we have now.  Telephone numbers used to start with names - ours was Nightingale.  There is no longer any romance in phone numbers.

It was a great evening and wonderful to see and hold the boys.  I hope I'll be able to do that again soon.
