Fungus...

... (Bracket fungus?). It's growing on one of the recently chopped trunks, so no tree is in danger of falling on anyone's head.
It's pretty (and I think I'd quite like a scarf in those colours).

I made a chocolate cake (for some neighbours) today.
I love making cakes. (I make a lot of them).
But, ooo... When you make one to give away.... No matter how many times you've made exactly the same one... And how cooked it 'looks'...
You really never know do you?
Could there be a runny bit in the middle?
(We quite like cakes on the gooey side of moist, so it never matters if it's for ourselves).

Recently I went into a new artisan bakery, which had been recommended
and had the kind of cakes for sale which looked so undramatic you just knew they had to be amazing. (They were). I asked for a slice of their (modest looking) organic everything chocolate cherry cheescake brownie traybake (I know, it's all in the label).
'Would you like an end piece or a middle bit?' the lovely baker asked.
(I almost took my mask off. How many times do we wait to be served, thinking, 'please, please give me a middle bit, don't give me a dried up crusty bit', and then smile politely when the end bit gets wrapped up? And don't even start me on corner pieces. Who wants those??).
I said (duh) 'A middle bit of course please... Does ANYONE choose the ends given a choice!?'
And as it turns out, they do.
Who knew?
Aren't folk odd?

I shall never know whether my cake was moist or not, but the above traybake was definitely a little slice of joy.
It's a good thing the shop is nowhere near where we live.

(I'm a twit. I should have blipped the cake).
