I started my second winter job today. I wasn’t scheduled to begin today but received a message at 6am asking me if I could start a day early, as the horses had been brought in over the weekend due to the awful weather.

Until this season I’ve been contracted by Penny, the matriarch of the clan, but she has handed the reins over to her 4th daughter, Nicky, as the horses are actually hers.

Nicky’s lovely but a bit of a space cadet sometimes, hence the very last minute message! I was up anyway and as these stables are literally 5 mins from my main job it was no bother to start today, but her father popped up to the stables on his way out to say thank you for pitching up at such sort notice.

I spotted the little silver pheasant attached to the bonnet of his Range Rover and he cheekily said “ ah yes, that’s my silver cock “ Have to admit he made me laugh!!!!
