Growing Chicks
The newest little ones look like they are going to be Ameraucanas chickens. I hope they are hens so we can have some more easter eggs (the blue and speckled eggs.) Our little gray hen was happy to get out for a bit today. She took her chicks into the grass and showed them how to find bugs. It was really sweet to watch...until the roosters showed up. We had to run them off and put her back in the coop. The babies, at just under 3 weeks old, are barely starting to get feathers.
In the extras is a progress report photo of the other two chickens that hatched back in late June. They aren't yet fully grown. One is most definitely a Rhode Island Red rooster. The other, on the right, might be the same. We are crossing our fingers, though, that it might be a hen. They are the shyest of our chickens and are hard to photograph. It is interesting that they always stay together
