...aaaand lift-off!
This is the splendid monument to Frank Whittle, the engineer who developed the jet engine. It's on the roundabout just by my workplace in Leicestershire.
They do like to decorate their roundabouts around here; the one further down towards Rugby has giant Bakewell tarts made of flowers in honour of Mr Kipling. I do love a Bakewell tart and it makes me want to eat cake every time I pass it. Job done, I guess. There's also a trailer that looks like an upside down pot noodle up the road too. I have no idea why.
I like this picture because you could almost think it's an actual plane (if you were squinting, and at a distance) and then you see the road signs underneath. It amuses me, anyway.
