Plain Jane #36

Another Yard Bird, the Purple Finch, just showed up today for the first time this year.  These finches are irruptive meaning that they don't always move into our area - just depends on food sources further north.  This morning, there were a pair at the feeders, where they've remained all day.  I will put a shot of the much snazzier male in Extra.

A lot of people confuse these with the more common House Finch, which is understandable as they are very similar.  For me, the distinct facial markings on both sexes and the overall square-ish head make ID of this species fairly easy.  The males always look as if they've been dipped in raspberry juice whereas the House Finch males are more reddish.  

On Monday, I decided to order a hard, shell kayak from Amazon (now that they are in stock again) and I was excited when it was delivered early this morning.  I took it out of its wrapping and then worked to get it on top of my car.  It's a little heavier than the inflatable, so I need to get a roller to help get it on top of the car.  I wanted to take it out today but it is super windy and I didn't want to risk it.  Hopefully tomorrow.  Very eager to give it it's maiden voyage.

We watched the VP debate last night.  It was, in my opinion, a draw as both candidates did well.  I don't care for Pence as I think he's smug and sanctimonious, but he's a good debater.  The hit of the evening, however, was the fly who landed on his head and stayed there for at least two minutes.  Which promoted a host of hilarious memes online.  The occupant of the White House continues to be totally off the rails.  I personally think part of his behavior over the last few days may be attributed to the steroids he's taking.  Either that or he's really losing his marbles.  His call-in to Fox News today was absolutely unbelievable.  

Be safe, people.  Some may think the virus is "nothing to worry about" but there are over 1 million families in the world who've lost someone dear to them who might disagree.
