More Rain

Back to rain again today. The tennis wasn't that exciting this afternoon, but I did enjoy my psychology U3A debate on 'Taking the Knee'. Some routine repairs were done on my car today - routine but not cheap!

Day 207 / Full Day 199 of Lockdown / Day 25 of Rule of Six (for my record only)
UK deaths up 77 to 42,592 (revised basis), with a 17,540 rise in new daily cases (up 3,378 since yesterday), 3,412 patients in hospital (1,190 in North of Eng on 1/10) and 442 in ventilator beds. On the current trajectory, the no. of people in intensive care in the North of England will exceed that at the peak in April in only 22 days. Total cases to date in Brazil has passed 5m. The WHO reports a record single day increase in global cases of 338,779.

Nottingham had over 2,000 new cases in one week, giving it the highest weekly rate of new cases in England. Bizarrely restrictions won't be notified until Monday - I assume a new system comes in then, but surely some message should go out immediately about limiting social contact. PHE says bars, pubs and restaurants 'accounted' for 41% of cases in under 30s. More than 1,000 students have tested positive in the last week at Newcastle University.  A study of 36,000 people between end Apr to end June, showed 115 tested positive and of these 88 (76.5%) were asymptomatic on the day tested and 86.1% had none of the main symptoms on the day tested - potential silent spreaders. 1,114 consultants from Deloitte are working on Test and Trace - I think we should request our money back!
