Sweet Chestnut

Good to find one Sweet Chestnut with a split shell. It was still clinging on to its branch but I managed to get a hold of the branch and lower it just enough to get a photo.

The Sweet Chestnut tree is much smaller than the Horse Chestnut. In bad weather you can shelter under the spreading branches of the Horse Chestnut while the Sweet Chestnut in Pollok Park offers no protection at all.

Sweet Chestnuts are edible for if roasted.
