Another day another windmill

This one is on Wimbledon Common and was built in 1817. It is known as a Hollow Post Mill. The mill worked for 47 years when it closed due to the Lord of the Manor proposing to enclose Wimbledon Common, sell Putney Heath as building land and build himself a new manor house. The local residents objected and this resulted in the Commons being protected by the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Act of 1871. The mill is now incorporated into a museum which sadly, is closed until next spring.
