Another Edinburgh Skyline

At last a lovely spring like day. This is a skyline taken from the roof of Ocean Terminal.
I contacted the Water of Leith conservation trust regarding yesterday's blip and was informed that "Its one of the three grotto's in Craiglockhart Dell.

It was commissioned by Sir Gorge Inglis (Inglis Green Road) as Craiglockhart Dells was part of his estate. The Inglis family were responsible for laying out both river banks in the Dells with trees, shrubs, walkways and Grotto's. The walled Garden and the Dove Cot were also part of his "pleasure garden".

The Grotto's were built by the landscape gardener Robert Bowie and date from 1756 (the dome may have more recent restoration). The artificial caves were built using stone from various parts of Scotland and the interior was lined with shells - some can still be seen.

I believe the domed roof and ornate windows were to mimic buildings of Moorish design from North Africa."
Thanks to them for this information.
