And then

A day of chimneys and a wheelbarrow.

The delivery of logs from a local group of guys in Appleby is unpredictable. You order and then . . . sometime later. . . they arrive. The delivery yesterday was unexpected and caught Gordon out, as his ancient wheelbarrow had finally broken down and he had not got round to getting a new one.

So today started with his going down into Appleby, to the shop that sells everything, choosing one, buying it and bringing it back. All this was very quickly done.

Then he managed to move the logs (800 apparently - he counted them!) out of the way of the drive before the chimney sweep arrived.

Meanwhile next door a chimney is being replaced. Yesterday scaffolding arrived and today the chimney was speedily taken down. The process involved a lot of coming and going with big machines - great fun to watch.

Local shops/ local tradesmen - all fantastic.
