Stormy

The wind got up during the night and was blowing a gale by morning, coming from the NE. This was the worst direction for the campsite as it was the least sheltered direction and the wind was catching the tent side on.
We re-pegged the most vulnerable bits and decided not to go away for too long. Our plan had been Rothbury and Simonside (see extra), it was too windy to go up any hills but we did go to Rothbury with a bit of exploring on the way.
Rothbury is a nice little town (apparently a relative once had a house there) and an excellent wool shop where money was spent! 
When back at the campsite the tent was holding up but some of the guys points - rubber which is now 25+yrs old - were looking as if they could go any time and we didn't want to risk it.
Fortunately we'd taken a smaller tent as well and the site owner let us pitch it in their private area so as much as possible was transferred and the rest thrown in the car. In taking down the tent one rubber loop snapped and a bit of pole broke (we probably could have avoided that but we do have a spare) so it seemed the right decision - just more cramped living now.
Once all was sorted as well as possible we went for a very stormy walk on Warkworth beach. It's hard to capture the power of the water but the lighthouse is on Coquet Island which kept disappearing behind the waves so the light looked a bit like a ship!
Surprisingly peaceful night!
