Cat’s Ladder.

I had a shopping list and needed stuff for my silver course which starts tomorrow so took the longer way around via the Cat’s Ladder and the Courts.
It must be Chief Pleas today. Once a year the whole court must assemble. I thought they assembled in the Royal Court but the Advocates I saw we’re heading for St James. There are possibly just too many of them to fit into the court these days. So all the way down I passed dozens of Advocates in their robes and toque hats. After the business of the Court has been conducted they parade down to the Town Church for a service. This is one of I think 3 occasions each year that the bellringers are paid to ring the bells. Other times are Liberation Day and Remembrance Sunday if I remember correctly.
And at this point I realised that I didn’t have my rucksack on my back! So I had to keep shopping to a minimum; luckily I had a fold up bag with me. I debated whether to go back or just get what I could carry and decided to carry on to town.
Having dodged all these lawyers I was walking down Smith Street when a man came out of a shop without looking and barged right into me. No harm done but he had grabbed my arm and was apologizing profusely but wouldn’t let go my arm. It seemed to take forever to shake him off...
I bought a few things I needed in Boots then walked along the seafront to Marks and Spencer for food. Bad move because they had very little. What a coincidence when yesterday I was on a tour about when the islanders were starving and awaiting the SS Vega. We’re not in that bad a state because I did buy a sack of wine and some courgettes but Storm Alex has caused a bit of havoc.
As I walked past the Town Church I could hear the bells and they sounded really good.
