Yn Gymraeg, 'Autumn' ydy 'Hydref' ac 'October' ydy 'mis Hydref'.  Mae diddordeb gyda fi yng ngwreiddiau'r geiriau Cymraeg a ddoe darganfyddai i fod y gair 'Hydref' yn dod o 'Hydd' ('Stag') a 'Brefu' ('Bellow', 'Bray', 'Bleat'). Gyda'n gilydd maen nhw'n ei wneud 'Hyddfrefu' neu 'Hydref'.  Felly 'Hydref' yw'r tymor a mis y 'hydd brefu'.

In Welsh, 'Autumn' is 'Hydref' and 'October' is 'mis Hydref'. I am interested in the origins of the Welsh words and yesterday i discovered that the word 'Hydref' comes from 'Hydd ('Stag') and 'Brefu' ('Bellow', 'Bray', 'Bleat'). Together they make 'Hyddfrefu' or 'Hydref'. So 'Hydref' is the season and the month of the 'bellowing stag'.
